1.      What do you think led you to photography in the first place?

I have always been drawn to photography. I find it very satisfying to create original images and capture a unique moment in time.

2.      How long have you been involved in photography?

I started as a teenager and have been involved in photography, to varying degrees, ever since.

3.      How did the the use of a large format camera come about?

I switched from 35mm to large format in 1990. I wanted to gain a reputation for high quality landscapes, creating low volume distinctive images. Large format was the perfect vehicle to achieve this.

4.      What current/future projects have you got planned?

I will shortly be travelling to America, then later in the year to different parts of Europe. My books are published internationally and a wide geographical spread of pictures is required.

5.      Are there any other photographers who really inspire you (and why)?

I actually admire the work of many painters, particularly Rembrandt and Turner. They create and use light in a way which I believe epitomises the beauty of visual art.

6.      Is there any advice you could give to people starting out in photography?

Concentrate on quality not quantity. A small number of very high quality, striking images will have more impact than a large collection of routine, forgettable pictures.

7.      How do you see photography  changing in the near future?

I think that technology will advance at an ever quickening pace. This will mean that noise-free shooting at fast ISO speeds will be possible, dynamic range will widen dramatically and improved image stabilisation will make tripods redundant. Solar powered or very long life batteries will be the norm and cameras will become smaller and lighter. A photographer's kit might consist of just a single camera body and only one lens. 3D imaging will eventually become common place and as a medium still photography and video capture will become merged together. These are just my personal thoughts and I might of course be totally wrong.

8.      What’s your dream kit?

I don't really have one. At the moment I am using a Nikon D810 which meets all my requirements.

I trust the above is of some interest and help to you.
